                                                         City Life-Streetcar 1800s

The streetcar or otherwise known as the trolley started being built around the 1880, and 1890s. Before this invention, cities were often walking cities. It was invented by Frank Sprague in January the eclectic trolley followed a similar design to the omnibus but they weren’t the same.  Everything from your job to the shops was all closely knit together. As cities started to expand, better transportation was needed to efficiently move from one place to another with further distances. Transportation with horses wasn’t cutting it anymore, and the trolly was ready to change city life forever. One of the largest issues with the horse transportation, was when the distance began to grow between the Businesses for shops, markets, and jobs the horses started to need more rest in between. This started to become a large inconvenience, with the still constant issue of manure it was no longer efficient. The streetcar lines were placed in a layout designed to prompt the suburban cities, for the ones that passed by through them. The trolley had special characteristics, such as being active transportation for both day and night. When the trolleys started to create challenges for the city population as they continued to increase and the trolleys kept getting the way of walking. The solution to this problem was to elevate the trolly line above the streets, so there wouldn’t be any interference. The earliest Streetcars were powered by two methods, electric batteries or horses, used by the omnibus. By the 1890s the streetcar replaced the horsecar/carriage in both Europe and The United States.
