A Concrete That’s Climate Change Friendly
All of the articles mentioned were connected to climate change in one way or another. The one I read, talked about how concrete is one of the most widely used materials used to build either buildings, sidewalks, or parking spots. This is the cause of the 8% of the carbon emissions released into the atmosphere. With this new formula for climate change-friendly concrete, its key material is reused concrete. There are a lot of landfills in America and specifically, half of the billions of tons of demolition end up in these landfills each year. This means once more research is placed into this project with the goals of making the concrete with enough strength to replace conventionally used concrete, and make It either carbon neutral or carbon negative.
Then in the future, this is something that can be created at a rapid speed when the material is so accessible. The article did mention this could be a potential climate change solution and I think It can tie into another article that was brought up saying If the world doesn’t slow down then we will reach the bad conclusion of climate change very soon. People believe if we keep trying to improve our world through building grander things whether through architecture or technology, then we can save our world, but also more sustainable options are often more expensive so realistically a lot of people don’t have opportunities to choose these more sustainable options. If the world isn’t going to be slowing down anytime soon then really the only thing we can do is start using the materials; ex. The concrete that reuses concrete to slow down this process.
