 1. How would you describe Jacob Walter's style of writing?  Remember that this is a diary.  Is this the sort of way you would write a diary?

I think that he had an interesting style of writing because instead of talking about what was happening as it was happening he was always reflecting on the events. I think I would probably write the same way because he was always marching and he never had time to stop and write. But Im not sure if this is a good writing style for a diary because for me it felt like I was reading a story.

2.  What is a worry that Jacob shares?  What about his setting (physical, temporal, historical) makes this worry unique?  Can you see/feel the human-ness in this worry?

I thought that it was interesting that he was always worrying about his horse over himself. He was always more stressed to get oats and wheat for his horse then getting bread for himself. This showed how important they were for him and the rest of the army.

3.  What is a hardship that Jacob endures?  Provide a quote (first three words, last word, page number).  What stood out to you as interesting or difficult concerning this hardship?  Could you imagine yourself responding in the same way or differently?

One of his main hardships was when he lost his horse "My countryman cut, without it(PG 77)"

4.  What does Jacob reveal about the human need of camaraderie?  How does the violence and constant movement of the war influence what camaraderie looks like here?

On pg 78 when he is talking to his master it shows how their friendship is keeping them together and how they talked of their preservation and the talks pushed them to try even harder to stay alive. Also when the general asks what it wrong with his neck he says that it is normal because he doesn't want his spirits to be down.
