Pick a section to note the style of his writing. How would you characterize it?
Throughout the 71st page his style of writing describes what is happening in the exact moment he was experiencing these actions. He is very good at showing us the full picture as well and dictating what is happening not only to himself but what others are doing as well.
What role does his religion play in his thinking? Give an example.
On page 71 the general revealed his plan to him and told him that they were going to Vienna and he would stay with him and be his trumpeter. He immediately thought that his master would make him christian and tried to escape.
What is a decision that he had to make? Do you think it was a good one? Why or why not?
A major decision that he had to make was when he decided to hide and escape with the help of a family. This decision led to him being caught again and put back into slavery. This choice might have ended badly but if he did not at least try to escape he would most likely have to sacrifice his religion, which is a major part of his life as we can see throughout this chapter. So I think that this decision was a good one.
How does Osman's experience help us understand history? Why is his experience important?
Osman’s experience in this chapter is important because it shows us his perspective in his time. This chapter preserves his thoughts and words throughout history so that we can read them and understand his struggles. His experiences are important because they show us what it was like to be a slave in the time of the ottoman empire.
